Astoria Senior Center Newsletter pilot May 2025
In May, 2025, I created a newsletter for my local senior center in Astoria, Oregon. I did all interviews, sleuthing, and writing. The first was a simple PDF mailed out and later pasted to their website. It has since been updated by each monthly newsletter that comes out. The original pilot document may be viewed here.

Since the pilot newsletter, there has been a wonderful and most welcome addition of a former magazine editor, Cindy Yingst, who formatted and made our newsletter more like a newsletter and less like a PDF! Astoria Senior Center Newsletter July 2025
In this edition, I reported on city council meetings covering topics directly affecting the overall wellbeing of our community surrounding the Senior Center. I also interviewed the board president of ENCORE (Exploring New Concepts of Retirement Education), to report on the ways the ENCORE is working with the Senior Center to enrich the minds of participating members.

In this newsletter, I covered the follow up to a failed ordinance in the city council, interviewing the Astoria Chief of Police as well as community members who would have been affected by this ordinance. I also covered Medicaid fraud and how to protect against it. Read all about it here:

PAIN MEDICATION AND SAFETY AROUND CHILDREN
In May 2025, I called upon a geriatric Nurse Practitioner friend to ask what some important issues that our elders were facing. She suggested talking about medication safety at home. I worked with my local Department of Public Health to get facts and wrote this piece. This went out as a PDF email to the members (850+ of them) of the Astoria Senior Center.
